Lionel Messi Leads Inter Miami to MLS Cup Final with Dominant Victory
Messi on the Verge of MLS Glory
After a lengthy wait exceeding two years, Lionel Messi is poised to lift the MLS Cup. The Argentine superstar has guided Inter Miami to their first championship match, achieving a decisive 5-1 win against New York City FC (NYCFC) in the Eastern Conference final. A significant contributor to this success was Tadeo Allende, whose two goals in the first half established Miami's dominance.
Allende Shines in the First Half
NYCFC started the match at Chase Stadium with their usual strategy, which worked effectively for the initial ten minutes. However, Miami's offense soon ignited. Messi created a clear chance from a set piece, finding Jordi Alba at the far post, but USMNT goalkeeper Matt Freese made a crucial save to deny the header.
Just four minutes later, Miami broke the deadlock. Allende received a perfectly timed pass inside the box and finished with a precise diagonal shot, putting Miami ahead 1-0.
Eight minutes later, he scored again. Alba noticed Allende making a run from 25 yards out and delivered a stunning long ball, which Allende headed into the net.
Despite Miami's control, NYCFC managed to score in the 37th minute when Justin Haak capitalized on poor defending to nod in from a set piece.
Miami's Ruthless Second Half Performance
In the second half, Miami displayed their ruthlessness. Mateo Silvetti, who had been quiet before halftime, confidently scored from a Messi assist, marking the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's only contribution to the match.
Jordi Alba then executed a brilliant backheel to set up Telasco Segovia, and Allende completed his hat-trick, restoring Miami's four-goal lead and sealing the victory.
Inter Miami to Host the MLS Cup Final
With this victory, Inter Miami has earned the right to host the MLS Cup, surpassing Vancouver Whitecaps and San Diego FC based on total points (65).
