Rajasthan Royals Triumph at Wankhede Stadium

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] - On May 24, Rajasthan Royals (RR) clinched a decisive 30-run victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium, securing their place as the fourth team in the IPL 2026 playoffs.

Jofra Archer delivered an impressive performance, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. He scored a rapid 32 runs off just 15 balls, helping his team surpass the 200-run threshold, and later took three wickets for only 17 runs, effectively dismantling the MI batting lineup.

Kumar Sangakkara, the head coach of RR, commended his bowlers for their ability to defend a challenging total of 205 runs. He stated, “In the final moments, it was crucial to adhere to our strategies and maintain composure. The key is how well players respond under pressure, and our bowlers executed their roles excellently. Our fielding was also commendable.”

Archer was elevated in the batting order to bat in the 13th over following Dhruv Jurel's dismissal. He showcased his power-hitting skills with three sixes and a four during his innings.

Regarding Archer's batting promotion, Sangakkara remarked, “It’s rewarding when it succeeds, but can be risky otherwise. We are aware of Jofra's capabilities with the bat and wanted him to take some calculated risks. Unfortunately, Donovan got out, but Jofra continued to perform, and Jaddu stepped in at the end despite an injury, helping us achieve a remarkable total of 206.”

For his outstanding all-round performance, Archer was awarded Player of the Match. He made an early impact by dismissing Rohit Sharma for a duck in the first over and followed up by taking out Naman Dhir in his next over. In the 16th over, he struck again by removing MI captain Hardik Pandya, effectively ending the hosts' chances.

Sangakkara praised Archer's bowling, saying, “He has consistently been a key player for us, showing great commitment to the team. He has been our leading bowler from the beginning. Yash has also been a valuable addition, showcasing his skills against experienced batters. We prioritize ability over age in our selections.”

Looking ahead, RR is set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator match on Wednesday in New Chandigarh. The winner will advance to compete against the loser of Qualifier 1 for a spot in the IPL 2026 final.
