Leading the charge for Punjab, captain Shreyas Iyer delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 101 runs off just 51 balls. This marked Iyer's first century in the IPL, breaking Punjab's streak of six consecutive losses. "I am overjoyed, honestly. It’s my first (IPL) hundred, and it came at a crucial moment for the team. After six losses, we finally secured a win," Iyer expressed. He also praised the bowlers for their efforts in restricting Lucknow's scoring, particularly highlighting Yuzvendra Chahal's performance. "Our bowlers were exceptional, especially Yuzi (Chahal), who did a fantastic job in the middle overs. This is a great positive for us, and we will be cheering for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan tomorrow (Sunday)," he added.
Earlier in the match, Lucknow posted a total of 196 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, with Josh Inglis leading the scoring with 72 runs off 44 deliveries. Punjab's successful chase was bolstered by a significant 140-run partnership between Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh, who contributed 69 runs. Chahal finished with impressive bowling figures of 2 wickets for 25 runs.
Lucknow's captain, Rishabh Pant, acknowledged the challenges his team faced with the bat. "This season has been tough for us. We knew that batting second would be easier here, so we fell a bit short on runs. We aim to focus on the positives from this season and build on them. We must take responsibility and come back stronger next season," Pant stated.
