Delhi Capitals Conclude IPL Season with Victory

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 25: Following a 40-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their final league match of IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens, Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel expressed pride in his team's fighting spirit, despite a season marked by inconsistency.

During the post-match presentation, Axar reflected on the team's character, especially in the latter part of the season. He stated, "In the last three matches, the way we played, even when things weren't going our way, the team's determination was commendable. I am very proud that we didn't just give up, even when the odds were against us."

Discussing the lessons learned from the season, he emphasized the importance of acknowledging mistakes and striving for improvement. "You must accept your errors to understand what needs to be enhanced," he noted.

Axar pointed out that small moments can significantly impact outcomes. "If just one match had gone differently, our narrative could have changed. We were close to playing better cricket; it was all about those crucial moments, like catches," he added.

Reflecting on his growth as a leader during tough times, Axar remarked, "The IPL demands that you manage everyone effectively. However, maintaining a positive mindset is crucial for handling challenges. If I am not in a good mental space, I risk making poor decisions or becoming frustrated. Staying calm is essential; I take time to relax my mind before addressing the team."

When asked about the strongest team among the Qualifiers, Axar expressed confidence in Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), stating, "SRH looks formidable. When their top three players perform well, they become a tough team to beat."

Delhi Capitals wrapped up their season on a high note, defeating KKR by 40 runs after successfully defending a total of 204 runs. The visitors set a score of 203/5, with notable contributions from KL Rahul (60), Axar Patel (39), and a late surge from David Miller and Ashutosh Sharma. KKR's bowlers struggled to contain runs, especially in the death overs.

In response, KKR started well with Finn Allen and Ajinkya Rahane adding 43 runs, but the innings faltered after Kuldeep Yadav's double strike. Axar Patel also took a crucial wicket, leading to KKR's collapse at 163 runs in 18.4 overs, securing a solid win for DC.
