Gokulam Kerala FC Secures Convincing Victory
In Bambolim, Goa, Gokulam Kerala FC achieved a commanding 3-0 win against Mohammedan Sporting Club during their final Group C match of the AIFF Super Cup at the GMC Stadium on Wednesday, according to the All India Football Federation's official website.
The match was initiated by Albert Torras, who scored in the 28th minute, setting a positive tone for the Malabarians. Samuel Lyndoh extended their advantage shortly after halftime, and substitute Juan Carlos Rico capped off the scoring with a third goal just minutes before the final whistle, securing Gokulam's position in third place in the group as both teams concluded their campaigns.
Gokulam's Alfred Planas made an early attempt to challenge Mohammedan's goalkeeper Subhajit Bhattacharjee with a curling free-kick in the fourth minute, which was expertly saved.
Mohammedan responded with counterattacks, with Maharabam Maxion missing the target from the edge of the box in the eighth minute. Shortly after, Ashley Koli's powerful free-kick struck the crossbar.
The breakthrough for Gokulam came in the 28th minute when Shighil's shot deflected off Yash Chickro, allowing Torras to volley the ball into the net, giving his team the lead.
This goal boosted Gokulam's morale, and they continued to press forward, while Mohammedan struggled to penetrate Gokulam's robust defense. The Malabarians maintained pressure through Planas and Soyal Joshy, forcing Bhattacharjee into another save just before halftime.
As the second half commenced, Gokulam Kerala remained aggressive. In the 49th minute, Planas combined with Torras before unleashing a left-footed shot that was deflected by Bhattacharjee.
After several attempts, Akshunna Tyagi made a significant play in the 56th minute, delivering a low cross that Samuel Lyngdoh converted with a tap-in, doubling the lead.
In the 86th minute, Gokulam Kerala added a third goal when Planas' initial shot was saved by Bhattacharjee, but Juan Carlos Rico capitalized on the rebound, sealing a 3-0 victory for Gokulam Kerala, marking their first win in the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26.
