On Sunday, Deepti Sharma, a DSP in the Uttar Pradesh Police and an all-rounder for the Indian women's cricket team, made her mark in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 final held in Navi Mumbai. Her exceptional performance played a crucial role in securing a 52-run victory against South Africa, prompting a congratulatory message from Rajeev Krishna, the Director General of Police in Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, the official social media account of the Uttar Pradesh Police highlighted that Deepti scored 215 runs and took 22 wickets throughout the tournament. For her outstanding contributions, she was awarded the 'Player of the Tournament' title. Notably, she was appointed as a DSP under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's 'Skilled Player Scheme' in January 2025.
In the final match, Deepti achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first player, male or female, to score a half-century and take five wickets in any World Cup knockout match. She scored 54 runs and took 5 wickets for just 39 runs, making India's total of 298/7 an insurmountable challenge for South Africa.
After the match, the 28-year-old from Agra expressed to the media that this was the most significant moment of her career. She stated, “From the first match, my goal was to contribute to the team as a senior player. Performing like this in the final and lifting the trophy is beyond anything I could have hoped for.” Reflecting on the long-awaited victory for the country, she added, “We waited many years, but what is meant to happen will happen.
