India Secures Historic Test Victory Over Afghanistan by Innings and 300 Runs
India's Dominance in Test Cricket
India's spin attack effectively dismantled Afghanistan's batting order, leading to the hosts achieving their largest victory by an innings margin in Test history, concluding the one-off Test match in just three days.
The Indian squad triumphed over Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs, surpassing their previous record against Afghanistan (by an innings and 262 runs in 2018) and also eclipsing their former largest win against the West Indies (by an innings and 272 runs in 2018).
Debutant Manav Suthar was instrumental in the first innings, while Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav took center stage during Afghanistan's second innings.
Afghanistan's Struggles Continue
After being bowled out for 152 runs in their first innings, Afghanistan was forced to follow on but could only manage 112 runs in 35.5 overs after tea. Sundar (4/36) and Yadav (3/30) proved to be too challenging for the Afghan batters.
Earlier on Monday, Suthar achieved a remarkable six-wicket haul, helping India dismiss the visitors before lunch. He concluded Day 2 with figures of 3/21 and finished the first innings with an impressive 6/33. This milestone made Suthar the 10th Indian to secure a five-wicket haul on debut and the seventh spinner to do so.
Key Performers and Upcoming Matches
Veteran Rahmat Shah (60 runs off 135 balls) was the only player to show some resistance before falling to Suthar, who claimed his fifth wicket. Shah, along with the injured Sharafuddin Ashraf (11), managed to bat for nearly 11 overs after Prasidh Krishna (3/37 in 11 overs) dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai (0). Despite his hamstring issue, Ashraf attempted to prolong Afghanistan's innings.
In the second innings, left-handed opener Sediqullah Atal (42) displayed patience but was dismissed on the last ball before tea while attempting to hit Sundar. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (24) also fell trying to clear the boundary off Yadav's bowling.
Rahmat (13) was dismissed while trying to attack Sundar, and with Ashraf unable to bat, Yadav's consecutive dismissals of Nangeyalia Kharote and Mohammad Saleem sealed India's victory.
The two teams are set to meet again for a three-match ODI series starting June 13 in Dharamsala, where Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are expected to join the Indian squad, which will hold an optional training session on June 10.
