What Promises Did Tejashwi Yadav Make Ahead of Bihar Elections?
Intensifying Election Campaigns in Bihar
Patna: As the election fervor escalates in Bihar, the campaigning for the initial phase of voting is set to conclude at 5 PM on Tuesday. In a press conference held in Patna, Tejashwi Yadav, the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Mahagathbandhan, unveiled several significant initiatives.
Yadav announced that should the Grand Alliance secure victory, women will receive the full Rs 30,000 annual aid under the 'Mai Bahin Maan Yojana' in a single payment of Rs 2,500 monthly, directly deposited into their bank accounts on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti.
This initiative aims to provide direct financial support to women.
Additionally, he declared that members of the Jeevika self-help groups and community mobilizers would be granted permanent employment along with a monthly stipend.
Moreover, the interest on loans taken by these groups will be completely waived, and each Jeevika Didi will be entitled to an insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh.
Tejashwi also promised the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) if his party comes to power, which would benefit teachers, healthcare workers, and police personnel.
Addressing a long-standing concern, he assured that job postings would be within 70 kilometers of an employee's home district, alleviating the financial and familial burdens faced by nurses and government staff stationed far from home.
The OPS guarantees pension benefits post-retirement for government employees.
In his election manifesto titled 'Tejashwi’s Pledge', he has made various commitments, including providing government jobs to one member of each family, offering 200 units of free electricity, and ensuring free electricity for farmers for irrigation. Furthermore, he pledged to make Jeevika Didis and contractual workers permanent.
The campaigning for the first phase, which encompasses 121 seats across 18 districts, will conclude at 5 PM, with voting scheduled for November 6 and results to be announced on November 14.
