Fatal Train Accident Near Bilaspur


On Tuesday, a devastating collision between a passenger train and a freight train occurred close to the Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals and leaving numerous others injured, as reported by local news sources.


Rescue efforts are ongoing, and the exact cause of the incident remains unknown at this time.


Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Agrawal confirmed the fatalities to the media, noting that the total number of injured individuals has yet to be determined, as some people are believed to be trapped beneath the debris.



The incident occurred around 4 PM, according to statements from the South East Central Railway. The Mainline Electric Multiple Unit passenger train, which is generally used for short-distance travel, was en route to Bilaspur from Gevra Road in the adjacent Korba district.


In response to the tragedy, the railways have provided helpline numbers for the families of those affected.


The South East Central Railway announced that an investigation will be initiated by the commissioner of railway safety, and necessary measures will be implemented to prevent future occurrences.


Additionally, the railways have declared a compensation package of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased. Those who sustained serious injuries will receive Rs 5 lakh, while individuals with minor injuries will be compensated with Rs 1 lakh.
