Tragic Train Accident Claims Lives of Six Women at Mirzapur Station
Fatal Incident at Chunar Railway Station
Mirzapur: A tragic accident occurred at Chunar Railway Station on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of six women passengers who were struck by an oncoming train while disembarking from the wrong side, as reported by railway officials.
The incident unfolded around 9:30 AM when the victims exited the Chopan Express onto the tracks, only to be hit by the Netaji Express traveling from Howrah to Kalkaji, according to Amit Singh, the Public Relations Officer for the NCR Prayagraj Division.
These women had arrived in Mirzapur to participate in the Kartik Purnima Snan.
Despite the presence of a footbridge, the passengers opted to disembark onto the tracks from platform four, leading to the unfortunate event, as stated by railway authorities.
Railway officials noted, “These individuals came to Mirzapur for the Kartik Purnima bath. They chose to cross the platform via the tracks instead of using the available footbridge, which resulted in the accident.”
Inspector Raghvendra Singh from the Government Railway Police confirmed the fatalities.
The victims have been identified as Savita (28), Sadhna (16), Shiv Kumari (12), Anju Devi (20), Sushila Devi (60), and Kalawati (50).
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and instructed officials to promptly reach the scene to facilitate rescue and relief efforts.
Both national and state disaster response teams have been dispatched to the location of the accident.
Union Minister and local MP Anupriya Patel shared her sorrow on social media, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the heartbreaking incident at Chunar Railway Station in my parliamentary constituency. District officials have been directed to reach the site immediately, accelerate relief efforts, and ensure proper medical care for the injured.”
The lawmaker further added, “In this time of sorrow, my heartfelt sympathies go out to the grieving families, and I wish for the swift recovery of the injured. May the Almighty grant peace to the souls lost in this tragedy.”
