Fatal Incident at Chunar Railway Station


Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 5: Six pilgrims tragically lost their lives after being struck by a train at Chunar railway station in Mirzapur district on Wednesday morning, according to officials.


Reports indicate that the victims had just disembarked from a train and were attempting to navigate across the tracks when a fast-moving train on an adjacent line collided with them. The collision was devastating, resulting in severe mutilation of the bodies.


The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, and the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations.


Mirzapur GRP Inspector Raghavendra Singh stated that the pilgrims had arrived at Chunar from Sonbhadra via the Prayagraj-Barwadih passenger train. They were en route to Varanasi and were trying to cross from one platform to another when the Kalka Mail sped through the station, causing the tragedy.


Witnesses reported that the pilgrims were returning to Dakshinanchal after performing a holy dip in the Ganga. The scene turned chaotic as bystanders rushed to assist. Personnel from the RPF and GRP quickly arrived to initiate rescue and relief operations.


Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow over the incident and offered condolences to the families affected. He instructed officials to ensure immediate relief efforts, provide optimal medical care for the injured, and deploy SDRF and NDRF teams if necessary.


He also directed senior officials to visit the site and oversee the relief operations.


Rescue efforts are ongoing, and the situation at the station has been stabilized.


In a related note, the death toll from a train accident near Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh has increased to 11, with several injured passengers still receiving treatment in hospitals.


The incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, involved a collision between a goods train and a mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) local.
