Tragic Fire Claims Lives of 23 in Goa Club Incident

Devastating Fire in North Goa


In a tragic incident late Saturday night, a fire at a club in Arpora village, North Goa, resulted in the deaths of at least 23 individuals.


The blaze ignited around midnight at Birch By Romeo Lane, situated close to Baga beach, a well-known tourist destination, according to reports from local authorities.


Initial investigations suggest that a cylinder explosion may have triggered the fire. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, and rescue operations continued into Sunday morning.


Chief Minister Pramod Sawant indicated that the majority of the deceased were kitchen staff at the club, with a few victims being tourists. He noted that three individuals succumbed to burn injuries, while the remainder died from smoke inhalation.


Goa's Director General of Police, Alok Kumar, confirmed that the fire has been contained. He stated, “The fire was primarily focused around the kitchen area on the ground floor,” and added that the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.


Kumar mentioned that most of the bodies were located in the kitchen, indicating that many of the victims were employees. Additionally, two bodies were discovered on a staircase.


In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, while those injured will receive Rs 50,000.
