TMC Leaders Call Out Rebel MPs for Alleged Betrayal and BJP Ties
TMC Leaders Address Rebel MPs
New Delhi: On Tuesday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad launched a fierce critique against dissenting party MPs, accusing them of lacking political integrity, maintaining connections with the BJP, and abandoning party members during times of alleged harassment.
During a press conference, Banerjee explained that the TMC felt compelled to address the media after rebel MPs claimed they had the backing of a majority of the party's Lok Sabha members and expressed intentions to form a separate faction.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a Lok Sabha MP leading the dissenting group, announced on Monday their decision to inform Speaker Om Birla of their support for the NDA, claiming that 20 MPs were prepared to send a letter to the Speaker.
Banerjee referenced former TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, who resigned after making allegations against the party, suggesting that the rebel MPs should also resign if they have grievances.
He stated, "Those who are accusing the party must take the same route as Sukhendu and demonstrate political integrity by resigning as MPs."
Challenging the legitimacy of a letter purportedly circulated by the dissenters, Banerjee remarked that such a significant document should be made public.
"If you are truly honest, why not disclose it? Why lack the courage to present the letter to the press?" he questioned, alleging a lack of transparency in their actions.
Banerjee further accused the rebel leaders of effectively aligning themselves with the BJP.
He pointed out that the dissenting MPs had met with Union Minister Bhupender Yadav alongside West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, indicating their allegiance to the BJP.
While TMC leader Mamata Banerjee, national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, and other senior MPs were engaged in a meeting with INDIA bloc leaders, some rebel TMC MPs convened at Yadav's residence on Motilal Nehru Marg.
Adhikari, who was in the capital for official duties, and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, who was previously involved in the West Bengal elections, also made a brief visit to Yadav's residence.
Criticizing the rebels, Kalyan Banerjee remarked, "They may twist their words, but the public is not naive. They have shifted their allegiance from Mamata Banerjee to Narendra Modi."
"We are relieved; these duplicitous individuals have departed. I spoke with Yusuf Pathan yesterday. He mentioned that Amit Shah has summoned him to Delhi. Shah is working to fracture the party," he charged.
During the conference, Azad accused the rebels of treachery and preparing to ally with the BJP.
"When BJP thugs attack party workers, will you stand by them? This is betrayal. If you wish to join the BJP, say it openly," he asserted.
Targeting Dastidar, Azad questioned her criticisms of the party leadership, highlighting the opportunities she had received within the organization.
"Kakoli has lost five elections, yet Mamata Banerjee made her an MP. You were removed as chief whip for not attending Parliament and giving instructions over the phone," he claimed.
"These traitors can leave, but they should never utter the name of Trinamool. We emerged from struggle," Azad concluded.
