Significant Financial Relief for 14,000 Sugarcane Farmers in Gopalganj

The Gopalganj government has made a significant move by approving ₹42.99 crores to settle the dues of 14,000 sugarcane farmers linked to the Sasamusa sugar mill. This decision not only ensures that farmers receive their rightful payments but also facilitates the reopening of the mill, potentially leading to over ₹500 crores in investments in the region. The government aims to enhance farmers' incomes and revive sugarcane cultivation, which is expected to boost local employment and prosperity. With plans to establish new sugar mills, the state is looking to replicate the success seen with the Reega sugar mill, further supporting the agricultural sector.

Major Financial Approval for Farmers

In a significant development for the 14,000 sugarcane farmers associated with the Sasamusa sugar mill in Gopalganj, the state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mr. Samrat Chaudhary, has approved a payment of ₹42.99 crores to settle long-standing dues. This historic decision not only ensures that farmers receive their rightful payments but also paves the way for the reopening of the mill and an investment exceeding ₹500 crores in the state.

Impact on Farmers' Income

Following this cabinet approval, farmers who have been awaiting their payments will soon receive their sugarcane prices. The government believes that this financial support will enhance farmers' incomes and encourage them to return to sugarcane cultivation. The revival of sugarcane farming is expected to significantly increase the likelihood of the mill resuming operations.

Support from the Sugarcane Industry Minister

Mr. Sanjay Kumar, the Sugarcane Industry Minister, welcomed this decision, emphasizing the state government's unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers under Chief Minister Mr. Samrat Chaudhary's leadership. He stated that the reopening of closed sugar mills and the establishment of new ones are top priorities for the government. Legal actions are being taken to expedite pending cases in the NCLT, which will benefit sugarcane farmers and promote employment and industrial growth in the state. The payment of dues to the farmers of the Sasamusa sugar mill has been a priority, and with this cabinet approval, the rightful funds will soon be transferred to the accounts of 14,000 farmers. This will not only improve the economic conditions of sugarcane farmers but also open new avenues for employment and prosperity in Gopalganj and surrounding areas.

Hope for Success Similar to the Reega Sugar Mill

The state government's extensive plan includes the establishment of new sugar mills, which will significantly boost the production of sugar, ethanol, and electricity. Notably, the government had previously approved ₹51.31 crores for the dues of farmers associated with the Reega sugar mill in Sitamarhi. The reopening of the Reega mill was made possible following a decision from the NCLT court, allowing farmers to receive their dues by 2025. The government is now fully prepared to replicate this success at the Sasamusa mill.
