Rahul Gandhi Accuses BJP of Electoral Fraud in Haryana Assembly Elections

Allegations of Voter Manipulation

On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi raised serious concerns regarding alleged massive electoral fraud in the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, suggesting it is part of a broader scheme to transform a potential Congress victory into a defeat.

During a press briefing in Delhi, Gandhi claimed that approximately 2.5 million fraudulent voters had been added to Haryana's electoral rolls ahead of the October 2024 elections.

With the state having around 20 million voters, this implies that one in every eight voters could be illegitimate, he noted.

He further accused the Election Commission of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by neglecting to rectify the voter lists.

This press conference was held just a day prior to the initial phase of Assembly elections in Bihar.

Key Points from Gandhi’s Claims:

Gandhi showcased an image of a woman he claimed was a Brazilian model, asserting that her picture was improperly used in the voter lists across multiple Haryana constituencies. “This is a coordinated effort,” he stated. “What is a Brazilian doing on a voter list in Haryana?” He also mentioned that one voter's name and photo appeared 223 times across two polling stations, alleging that there are “numerous such instances” in the state.
According to Gandhi, out of the 2.54 million fraudulent entries identified in Haryana's voter list, 520,000 were duplicates, 93,174 had invalid addresses, and 1.92 million were bulk registrations. He expressed concern that the Congress party lacked access to details regarding the misuse of Form 6 (for additions) and Form 7 (for deletions) since the Election Commission restricted data access after the party raised concerns about voter manipulation in Karnataka.
Gandhi accused the BJP of orchestrating voter list fraud and presented a video of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who confidently stated at a press conference before the election results that the BJP would secure a full majority. “There is a complete arrangement for it, do not worry,” Saini said in the video. Gandhi highlighted the chief minister's comments, questioning the implications of his confidence when all indicators suggested a Congress victory.
He further claimed that the practice of “vote theft” had become systematic, warning that similar tactics might be employed in Bihar as well. He invited residents from Jamui district, who reported their names missing from the electoral rolls, to share their experiences. Gandhi alleged that many legitimate voters faced similar issues during the recent intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Additionally, Gandhi asserted that numerous BJP members were registered as voters in multiple states. “Thousands of BJP leaders are casting votes in both Uttar Pradesh and Haryana,” he claimed. “There are individuals who are BJP leaders in one state and registered voters in another.”

The Election Commission has yet to respond to these allegations made by Gandhi.

In response, BJP leader Kiren Rijiju remarked that raising issues about Haryana while voting was ongoing in Bihar indicated that the “matter is being fabricated to distract attention,” as the Opposition lacks substantial issues in Bihar.
