Inauguration of the Railway Overbridge
Guwahati, Dec 2: The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, officially opened a newly built railway overbridge in Jamunamukh, located in Hojai district. This infrastructure project, which cost approximately Rs 83 crore, spans 951 meters and features a motorable carriageway that is 7.5 meters wide, as per an official announcement.
Additional Inaugurations and Foundation Laying
During his visit, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated the Model High School at Balijuri Tea Estate, along with the Jagannath Community Halls and Skill Centres situated at Kandali, Dhantola, and Sagunbahi Tea Estates.
He laid the foundation stones for new educational facilities at Barhampur Higher Secondary School and Jamunamukh Higher Secondary School, in addition to various flood protection and road connectivity initiatives under the Nagaon Water Resources Division.
Flood Protection and Connectivity Projects
The projects include improvements on the right bank of the Kopili river from Jamunamukh-Chikamari to Milonpur and from Jamunamukh to Patiapam, as well as on the left bank from Bakulguri to the Jamunamukh RCC bridge, and from Jamunamukh bridge to Premjan-Gosaigaon, Gosaigaon to Chaibuk village, and Pub-Kawoimari to Borchung. Additionally, anti-erosion measures on the Haria river from Palsa to Pub Tetelisara were initiated.
Significance of the Day
In a public meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the day for the Barhampur Legislative Assembly Constituency, stating that the new overbridge would enhance connectivity between Dabaka, Kampur, and Jamunamukh railway stations.
He pointed out that areas like Kampur and Jamunamukh face annual flooding from the Kopili river. The Water Resources Department has undertaken projects worth around Rs 80 crore to alleviate flooding in Barhampur and Jamunamukh, which, once completed, will provide long-term relief to residents.
Ongoing Development Initiatives
The Chief Minister highlighted the ongoing development efforts in Barhampur, mentioning that the newly constructed flyovers at Chaparmukh and Kampur have already been inaugurated. Furthermore, road development and stadium construction projects totaling approximately Rs 350 crore are advancing swiftly throughout the constituency.
He remarked that prior to the current government's tenure, development activities in the state had stagnated, and welfare schemes were not effectively reaching the underprivileged.
In addition to welfare initiatives, the government is also enhancing infrastructure. Previously, schools received minimal funding for development, but the new schools whose foundations were laid today will each be built at a cost ranging from Rs 6 to 8 crore.
