Myanmar Delegation to Explore Ahom Heritage in Assam

A delegation from Myanmar is set to arrive in Assam on November 7 to explore their ancestral roots linked to the Ahom dynasty. Led by Dr. Hemanta Kumar Gogoi, the group will visit historical sites in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts. The event will feature cultural performances and discussions aimed at fostering collaboration between the visitors and local relatives. This visit highlights the rich heritage of the Tai Ahom community and aims to strengthen cultural ties.
 

Myanmar Delegation's Visit to Assam


Sivasagar, Nov 5: A group from Myanmar is set to arrive in Assam on November 7 to trace their ancestral roots and explore the rich heritage of the Ahom dynasty through the ancient sites in Sivasagar district.


Dr. Hemanta Kumar Gogoi, president of the Society for Tai Ahom Resurgence (STAR), announced during a recent press briefing that this delegation, consisting of 10 to 12 descendants of Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha, is traveling from Myanmar to connect with their Tai Ahom heritage. They will be visiting significant historical locations in both Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.


The event will be graced by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and a Khamti cultural group, as stated by Gogoi, who also mentioned that a cultural program will be organized to welcome the guests.


Gogoi extended an invitation to local relatives of the visitors, emphasizing that the discussions during the event could pave the way for collaborative opportunities in various fields.


The program will showcase a variety of performances, including Ai Sing Lao, Khamti, Tai Ahom modern dance, Tai peacock dance, Katou dance, Hengdang dance, Tai music, and traditional cuisine.


The press conference also saw the participation of several notable social activists.
