Mamata Banerjee Leads Protest in Kolkata Against Electoral Roll Changes
Protest Against Electoral Roll Revision
Kolkata: On Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, took to the streets of Kolkata to spearhead a protest rally opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has criticized this initiative, labeling it as a form of 'silent invisible rigging' orchestrated by the BJP-led central government and the Election Commission.
Accompanied by her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, who serves as the TMC's national general secretary, the Chief Minister commenced the 3.8-kilometer march from the B R Ambedkar statue located on Red Road.
The rally is set to conclude at Jorasanko Thakur Bari, the historic residence of Rabindranath Tagore.
A large crowd of TMC supporters filled the streets, waving party flags, chanting slogans, and displaying vibrant posters.
Dressed in her signature white cotton saree and slippers, Banerjee led the procession, frequently pausing to acknowledge supporters gathered on balconies and sidewalks.
Following closely behind, Abhishek Banerjee waved to the enthusiastic crowd, accompanied by senior TMC leaders and ministers.
