Tributes Pour In for H.Y. Meti


Bengaluru, Nov 4: H.Y. Meti, a prominent Congress MLA from Bagalkot and former minister, has sadly passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru. His death occurred on Tuesday after he was admitted due to a serious illness, ultimately succumbing to multiple organ failure.


The 79-year-old leader had a distinguished political career, serving as an MLA for five terms and is survived by four children.


According to family sources, his final rites are set to take place on Wednesday in Thimmapur, located in Bagalkot district.


Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his sorrow, stating, "The news of H.Y. Meti's passing is profoundly saddening. Just last Thursday, I visited him in the hospital, hoping for his recovery. Regrettably, my hopes and prayers have not been answered."


He further remarked, "Meti was a dedicated leader who prioritized the welfare of the people and the development of his constituency. His loss is significant for society. I pray for peace for his soul and strength for his family and supporters during this difficult time."


Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar also shared his condolences on social media, stating, "I am heartbroken to hear about the passing of senior Congress leader H.Y. Meti. His loss is irreplaceable for our party. May he rest in peace, and may God provide comfort to his family."


Shivakumar announced that the launch of the book 'Neerina Hejje', originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed due to Meti's passing. He mentioned, "Meti's health had been declining recently. The news of his demise is truly heartbreaking. The Chief Minister and I will decide on a new date for the book release after further discussions."


"Meti was a close ally of mine. He joined our party alongside Siddaramaiah and served as both an MLA and minister. He was also the chairman of the BTDA at the time of his passing. May his soul find peace, and may his family find the strength to cope with this loss," Shivakumar added.
