Intensified Anti-Terror Operations in Jammu and Kashmir Following Recent Encounter

In Jammu and Kashmir, an encounter between security forces and terrorists has intensified anti-terror operations in the region. Following a recent attack that claimed multiple lives, authorities are targeting not only militants but also their support networks, including drug traffickers and money laundering operations. This comprehensive strategy aims to dismantle the entire ecosystem of terrorism, ensuring greater security along the borders. The situation remains dynamic as operations continue in the Kishtwar district, with updates expected as the encounter unfolds.

Ongoing Encounter in Kishtwar District

Jammu, Nov 5: An encounter erupted on Wednesday between security forces and militants in the forested region of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the operation commenced on Tuesday evening based on specific intelligence, leading to a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Kalaban forest area of Chatroo sub-division.

As security personnel approached the location where the terrorists were believed to be hiding, the militants opened fire, resulting in an ongoing encounter. Further updates are pending, according to officials.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with security forces, have launched a robust anti-terrorism campaign targeting not only the militants but also their associates and sympathizers.

This updated strategy aims to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir, rather than merely focusing on eliminating armed terrorists.

Authorities are also scrutinizing drug traffickers and those involved in hawala operations, as it is suspected that the proceeds from these illegal activities are used to support terrorism in the region.

These intensified operations were initiated following the April 22 terror attack in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, perpetrated by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants.

The attack resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 25 tourists and a local pony owner, which sparked nationwide outrage and led to the launch of Operation Sindoor by the Armed Forces against terror infrastructure in Pakistan.

Jammu and Kashmir is bordered by a 740-km-long Line of Control (LoC) and a 240-km-long International Border (IB). The army is responsible for guarding the LoC, while the Border Security Force (BSF) oversees the IB.

Both the army and BSF are deployed to prevent infiltration and exfiltration, as well as to combat the threat posed by drones carrying weapons, drugs, and cash intended for terrorists. Meanwhile, local police and security forces conduct anti-terrorism operations in the interior regions.

The LoC runs through the Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in the Valley and partially in Jammu district, while the IB is located in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts of the Jammu division.
