Indian Navy Commends Gurindervir's Record
In a post on X, the Indian Navy expressed its congratulations to Gurindervir for his national record of 10.09 seconds in the 100m sprint during the 29th National Federation Cup Athletics Championships in Ranchi. The Navy highlighted his achievement, stating, 'Gurindervir Singh, Petty Officer of the Indian Navy, scripts history by setting a NEW NATIONAL RECORD in the 100m sprint with a sensational timing of 10.09 seconds at the ongoing 29th National Federation Cup…'
The Navy's message emphasized Gurindervir's qualification for both the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, commending his speed and commitment.
A Day of Records in Athletics
At just 25 years old, Gurindervir improved the previous national record by 0.06 seconds, which had been set only a day prior by Animesh Kujur in the semifinals. Interestingly, Gurindervir had briefly held the record himself after clocking 10.17 seconds in the semifinals, only to see it surpassed by Animesh's 10.15 seconds shortly after. However, Gurindervir reclaimed the record with his impressive performance, and both athletes will represent India in the men's 100m at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
In another remarkable feat, Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi became the first Indian man to break the 45-second mark in the 400m, winning at the Federation Cup with a national record time of 44.98 seconds. This historic day for Indian sprinting was highlighted by Vishal's achievement, which followed Gurindervir's stunning 10.09 seconds in the men's 100m, marking a memorable evening for Indian athletics in Ranchi.
