Indian Navy Celebrates Gurindervir Singh's Achievement

The Indian Navy has lauded athlete Gurindervir Singh for his remarkable achievement of winning a gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle event at the Federation Cup held in Ranchi on Saturday. They have dubbed him 'the fastest man in India.'


As a Petty Officer in the Indian Navy, Gurindervir made history by becoming the first Indian male athlete to finish the 100m race in under 10.10 seconds, achieving an impressive national record time of 10.09 seconds.


Recognition from the Indian Navy

In a post on X, the Indian Navy expressed their congratulations to Gurindervir for his record-setting performance at the 29th National Federation Cup Athletics Championships in Ranchi. They highlighted his new national record of 10.09 seconds in the 100m sprint, stating, 'Gurindervir Singh, Petty Officer of the Indian Navy, scripts history by setting a NEW NATIONAL RECORD in the 100m sprint with a sensational timing of 10.09 seconds at the ongoing 29th National Federation Cup…'


The Navy emphasized Gurindervir's qualification for both the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, commending his speed and commitment.


A Day of Record-Breaking Performances

At just 25 years old, Gurindervir improved the previous national record by 0.06 seconds, which had been set just a day prior by Animesh Kujur during the semifinals. Interestingly, Gurindervir had briefly held the record himself after clocking 10.17 seconds in the semifinals, only for Animesh to surpass it shortly after with a time of 10.15 seconds. However, Gurindervir reclaimed the record decisively on Saturday, with both athletes qualifying for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games to represent India in the men's 100m event.


Historic Achievements in Indian Sprinting

In another significant milestone, Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi became the first Indian man to break the 45-second barrier in the 400m race, winning at the Federation Cup with a national record time of 44.98 seconds. This historic day for Indian sprinting was marked by Vishal's achievement, which followed Gurindervir's stunning 10.09 seconds in the men's 100m, making it a memorable evening for Indian athletics in Ranchi.
