Regulatory Action Against IndiGo's Leadership

On Saturday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Elbers and accountable manager Isidro Porqueras, demanding an explanation within 24 hours for the significant disruptions in flight operations. Sources have confirmed this development.

IndiGo has faced considerable operational challenges over the past five days, resulting in the cancellation of hundreds of flights and delays affecting thousands of passengers.

According to sources, the notice sent to Elbers and Porqueras indicates that the widespread operational failures reflect serious deficiencies in planning, oversight, and resource management. Porqueras serves as both the accountable manager and Chief Operating Officer at IndiGo.

The notice stated, "As the CEO, you are responsible for ensuring effective management of the airline, yet you have failed to ensure timely arrangements for reliable operations and to provide the expected services to passengers."

The DGCA has also requested a response from Elbers within 24 hours. The notice further highlighted that there was insufficient provision to meet the revised requirements for the approved Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) plan, which is a primary cause of the flight disruptions.

A government official noted that on Saturday, Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu reviewed the situation with senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and had a "serious discussion" with Elbers to address the issues. The official added that appropriate actions would be taken based on the findings of the investigation committee regarding the IndiGo flight disruptions.
