Bihar Government to Boost Financial Support for Women Entrepreneurs
Enhancing Support for Women in Bihar
New Delhi, Nov 4: The NDA coalition, led by the BJP, is dedicated to the upliftment and empowerment of women, particularly focusing on ‘Jeevika Didis’. Senior BJP leader Smriti Irani announced that the newly formed government in Bihar plans to increase the financial assistance under the Rozgar Yojana from Rs 10,000 to Rs 2 lakh.
During a press conference, Irani highlighted that 1.30 crore women in Bihar have already benefited from the initial Rs 10,000, and this amount will soon be raised to Rs 2 lakh to bolster their entrepreneurial initiatives.
She emphasized the NDA government's commitment to women-centric programs in Bihar, noting that under the Ujjawala Yojana, 1.16 crore women have received LPG cylinders, contributing to smoke-free kitchens. Additionally, over 11 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been established through the Jeevika initiative to promote self-reliance and reduce dependency.
Irani stated that if the NDA is re-elected, it will further enhance efforts to create a self-sufficient environment in Bihar, aiming to provide over one crore women with the increased financial support of Rs 2 lakh.
She also highlighted the NDA's commitment to increasing women's representation in governance, citing the historic legislation that ensures 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament, empowering them as leaders and lawmakers.
Addressing recent promises made by the opposition, she criticized the 'Mahathugbandhan' for misleading the public, especially women, and described the RJD's recent pledge of Rs 30,000 under the Maai Bahin Yojana as a sign of desperation.
Irani remarked, “Their promise undermines women's strength. The grand alliance is resorting to such tactics to gain electoral support.”
She expressed concern that while the NDA is actively promoting women's empowerment through direct financial aid, opposition parties, particularly the RJD, are attempting to obstruct these initiatives.
“It is alarming that while the NDA is facilitating women's empowerment, the corrupt alliance is trying to hinder it,” she stated, referring to the RJD's request to the Election Commission of India to halt the distribution of funds under the Rozgar Yojana.
Under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, Rs 10,000 is being deposited into the accounts of ‘Jeevika Didis’ to support their entrepreneurial aspirations.
Importantly, over 1.1 crore women have been identified as beneficiaries of this scheme in Bihar, which is managed by the Rural Development Department and aims to foster entrepreneurship and self-employment among women.
