With the announcement of the Bihar Assembly election dates, political parties have swiftly mobilized their strategies for the electoral battle. Each party has commenced preparations at their respective levels. Notably, Bihar comprises 243 assembly seats, with elections scheduled in two phases: the first phase on November 6 and the second on November 11. Among these, the Digha constituency holds significant importance.


Historical Context of Elections

Since 2010, the NDA has maintained a stronghold over the Digha assembly seat. In 2010, Poonam Yadav from the JD(U) won this seat, but it later transitioned to the BJP. In the last two elections, specifically in 2010 and 2015, Sanjeev Chaurasia from the BJP emerged victorious, defeating JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan decisively.

This election cycle, all eyes are on the Digha assembly seat. The CPI(ML) has nominated Divya Gautam, who is the cousin of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. On the other hand, the BJP has fielded Sanjeev Chaurasia to contest in this crucial election.


Demographics of Digha Assembly Seat

The Digha constituency is characterized by a diverse voter base, including significant populations of Yadavs, Koiris, Bhumihars, Rajputs, Brahmins, and Kurmis. As an urban seat, it boasts over 473,000 voters and encompasses six panchayats along with 14 wards in the municipal corporation. Due to its urban nature, Digha is regarded as one of the largest and most vital electoral regions in Bihar.
