The Bharmaur-Pangi MLA, Dr. Janak Raj, has expressed strong disapproval regarding the Special Area Development Authority's (SADA) decision to implement a Green Tax and sanitation fees starting July 1. He described this action as deeply regrettable.

Dr. Raj pointed out that this initiative arrives at a time when many citizens are grappling with rising inflation, joblessness, and various economic hardships. He believes it is the duty of the government and local administration to secure funding for development and sanitation efforts, rather than continually imposing financial burdens on the public, including everyday citizens, small business owners, travelers, and tourists through additional taxes, which he views as a sign of administrative inadequacy.

Highlighting that Bharmaur is a significant religious and tourist hub, Dr. Raj noted that the influx of pilgrims and visitors is crucial for the local economy. He warned that the introduction of a Green Tax could negatively impact tourism, thereby affecting the livelihoods of traders, hotel operators, taxi services, and small shopkeepers.

While acknowledging the importance of environmental conservation, he argued that it is unjust to place the entire financial responsibility on the public.
