Guwahati, June 9: The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, revealed on Tuesday that the state government will implement a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) starting in July. This adjustment will benefit over 800,000 active employees and pensioners.
Sarma took to social media to express the government's dedication to the welfare of its workforce and retirees.
He stated, "Our employees and pensioners are essential contributors to Assam's development. To further assist them, the Assam Cabinet has sanctioned a 2% rise in DA and DR, increasing it from 58% to 60% effective this July."
The updated DA and DR will be applied from July, offering additional financial relief to beneficiaries amid ongoing inflation.
The Assam Cabinet's recent decision to raise DA and DR from 58% to 60% aims to provide extra financial assistance to government employees and retirees in light of escalating living expenses.
Officials noted that this increase is designed to help both current employees and pensioners mitigate the effects of rising prices and maintain their purchasing power.
Dearness Allowance is allocated to active government employees, while Dearness Relief is provided to pensioners as a means of compensating for inflation's impact.
These rates are periodically adjusted by governments in response to current economic conditions and expert recommendations.
This latest increase is part of a broader initiative by the Assam government to enhance employee welfare and ensure timely payment of salaries, pensions, and retirement benefits.
Emphasizing the significance of government employees and pensioners in the state's progress, Sarma affirmed that the government will persist in its efforts to improve their welfare and financial stability.
