Significance of Rama Ekadashi: Observance and Rituals
Understanding Rama Ekadashi
Ekadashi Tithi is of great importance in Sanatan Dharma, occurring twice each month. Each Ekadashi has distinct significance, and the current month of Kartik features a particularly notable Ekadashi during the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight). On this day, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi alongside the Keshav form of Lord Vishnu. This marks the final Ekadashi of Chaturmas. To gain insights on the Rama Ekadashi fast and its unique importance, we consulted an astrologer from Deoghar.
Rama Ekadashi Details
Pandit Shri Dhananjay Pathak from Pagal Baba Ashram in Deoghar shared that the Ekadashi during the Krishna Paksha of Kartik is referred to as Rama Ekadashi. The term 'Rama' signifies 'Mother Lakshmi,' hence, on this day, worship is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu. This year, Rama Ekadashi will be observed on October 17th. Observing this fast is believed to bring blessings, eliminate sins, and enhance wealth and prosperity.
Timing of Ekadashi Tithi
When does Ekadashi Tithi begin?
Pandit Ji notes that, according to the Kashi Rishikesh Panchang, the Ekadashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in Kartik begins at 10:35 AM on October 16th and lasts until 11:12 AM on October 17th. The fast will be observed on October 17th, with the fast-breaking scheduled between 6:24 AM and 8:41 AM on October 18th. Notably, on this day, the Sun transitions from Virgo to Libra, creating a significant conjunction for Libra Sankranti.
Rituals for Rama Ekadashi
What to do on Rama Ekadashi?
Pandit Ji advises that on Rama Ekadashi, one should take a morning bath, vow to fast, and then worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu. During the worship, offering Tulsi leaves to both deities is essential. Additionally, lighting a lamp under the Tulsi tree in the evening and, if possible, listening to the Satyanarayan Katha at night is recommended. These practices are believed to enhance happiness and prosperity in the home, ensuring the presence of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, while absolving all sins.
