Trump's NBA Finals Appearance Sparks Mixed Reactions
Trump's Visit to Madison Square Garden
During Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, President Donald Trump received a varied response from the audience. The event saw him seemingly nodding off after being met with loud boos from the crowd. A native of Queens and a long-time supporter of the Knicks, Trump was invited by Knicks owner James Dolan. Prior to the game, he was featured on the arena's screens performing a military salute. Although a brief chant of "USA, USA" erupted during the national anthem, the atmosphere shifted to boos when Trump appeared on the scoreboard. The crowd's discontent faded when the US flag was displayed, and cheers erupted for the Knicks players.
As the game progressed, footage circulated online showing Trump with his eyes closed while seated next to Dolan in a luxury suite. It remained uncertain whether he had actually fallen asleep or was merely resting, but the clip ignited conversations on social media.

Accompanying Trump were his granddaughter Kai Trump, adviser Boris Epshteyn, and several Cabinet members including Lee Zeldin, Sean Duffy, and Doug Burgum. He observed the game from Dolan's suite as the Knicks aimed to solidify their lead in the Finals.
The president's presence led to increased security measures around Madison Square Garden, with the New York Police Department and the US Secret Service establishing a significant perimeter hours before the game began. Fans lined up early, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a major city event.
Notably, Trump became the first sitting US president to attend an NBA Finals game, arriving via Marine One from New Jersey before his motorcade made its way through Manhattan to the venue. The Knicks entered Game 3 with a 2-0 series lead, a position that historically sees teams with such a lead winning 32 out of 37 Finals. However, the Spurs managed to turn the tide, winning the game 115-111.
