Foiled Attack on Jaffar Express

Karachi: Security personnel successfully thwarted an attack aimed at the Jaffar Express passenger train, which has been a frequent target, in Balochistan province, as reported on Sunday.

According to the Dawn newspaper, unidentified militants placed an improvised explosive device (IED) on the tracks used by the train heading to Peshawar in the Nasirabad region on Saturday.

Upon receiving alerts about the explosive, law enforcement agencies quickly secured the area and safely defused the device, as stated by a police official.

This incident follows a previous close call for the train nearly a month ago, and it comes after a tragic attack that resulted in 26 fatalities.

In light of security concerns, the Jaffar Express traveling from Peshawar to Quetta was halted at Jacobabad, along with another train.

Services for these trains will be resumed once the situation is evaluated.

The Jaffar Express has faced multiple attacks this year, with the most severe occurring on March 11, when the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the train carrying 380 passengers, leading to a two-day standoff that ended with 26 deaths. Security forces managed to rescue approximately 354 passengers, while 33 insurgents were killed.
