Bangladesh Triumphs in First ODI Against Australia

In a remarkable performance, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 86 runs using the DLS method in the opening ODI of their three-match series held in Bangladesh. This victory marks Bangladesh's first ODI win against Australia since 2005.

The hosts set a target of 285 runs, thanks to significant contributions from Mosaddek Hossain, who scored an unbeaten 86 off 70 balls, along with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who scored 67 and 54 runs respectively. Bangladesh finished their innings at 284/8 after 50 overs.

In response, Australia struggled against the bowling of Nahid Rana, who took 4 wickets for 41 runs in 10 overs, limiting the visitors to 191 runs for 9 wickets in 42.2 overs before rain interrupted the match.

Key Performances Highlight Bangladesh's Victory

Australia's stand-in captain, Josh Inglis, chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Bangladesh faced an early setback with the dismissal of Saif Hassan for just 5 runs but quickly regrouped.

The partnership between Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Shanto was pivotal, as they added 96 runs for the second wicket. Tanzid's aggressive 54 off 44 balls and Shanto's steady 67 off 86 balls laid a solid foundation.

Despite a brief collapse triggered by Matt Renshaw, who took two quick wickets, Mosaddek Hossain's explosive return to form was the highlight of the innings, featuring seven fours and three sixes in his innings.

Australia's Chase Falls Short

In their chase for 285, Australia's batting lineup struggled against the pitch conditions and the pace of Nahid Rana. Cameron Green provided some resistance with an unbeaten 52 runs, while Alex Carey added 47.

However, the required run rate escalated as Mosaddek Hossain maintained pressure during the middle overs, finishing with economical bowling figures of 2/37.

Mustafizur Rahman concluded the innings by taking 2 wickets for 24 runs, leading to Australia being bowled out for 191 runs. The match was ultimately called off due to rain, with Australia falling short by 86 runs under the DLS method.

With this victory, Bangladesh leads the series 1-0, with the next ODI scheduled for June 11 at the same venue.
