Sakshi Shivdasani Calls Out Comedian Over Controversial Audience Comment: A Deep Dive
Sakshi Shivdasani Speaks Out Against Misogyny in Comedy
Model and social media influencer Sakshi Shivdasani has expressed her strong disapproval regarding a recent incident involving comedian Prrenit Mor. The controversy erupted when an audience member made a comment about spending 370 rupees on a plate of chicken biryani during a date, which sparked significant outrage online. Many users condemned the remark as disrespectful and misogynistic, leading Sakshi to describe the entire situation as gross and disgusting, while questioning Prren's choice to share the clip on social media.
In her Instagram response, Sakshi addressed Prren's defense of the backlash, where he stated that the opinions expressed by audience members during his crowdwork do not mirror his own. However, she contended that even if he disagreed with the comment, he still chose to post the clip because he found it amusing. Sakshi criticized this action, stating, "Pranit Mo is saying, 'The views of my audience members don't reflect what I think, but sir has clipped it and posted it on Instagram because he found it so funny that a man paying on a date thinks he has bought the right to sleep with a woman.'" Her comments ignited a debate about whether comedians should be held responsible for the content they choose to showcase from their performances.
Sakshi also highlighted the consequences faced by the audience member at the center of the controversy, identified as Himanchu Jangra, who reportedly faced disciplinary measures at his job after the video gained traction. She pointed out that accountability often arises only when women publicly call out inappropriate behavior, stating, "And then the company the guy works for firing him. But caveating that we must reflect and change when this creepy grown man has no desire to reflect or change and thinks he deserves for paying on a date is proof that there are consequences for men only because women raise their voices." She emphasized that such incidents should not be dismissed as harmless jokes, as doing so allows problematic attitudes to persist unchecked.
The controversy began when Jangra, a 22-year-old from Gurugram, shared his dating experience during Prrenit Mor's crowdwork show, suggesting that his spending on biryani entitled him to something from the woman. The remark quickly went viral, leading to widespread criticism across social media platforms. As the discussion continues, Sakshi remains firm in her stance, reiterating that the incident is gross and disgusting while urging society not to normalize objectifying attitudes towards women. Her comments contribute to the ongoing dialogue about accountability, comedy, and the messages amplified through social media.
